Hellions of Halstead Hall
review 1: A Hellion in Her Bed by Sabrina Jeffries is the second book of her Hellions of Halstead Hall series, following the Truth About Lord Stoneville. Lord Jarret Sharpe, a second son and notorious gambler agrees to run Plumtree Brewery, his family's brewery for a year if his grandmother relents on her ultimatum that he marry. At the brewery, Jarret meets brewster Annabel Lake who proposes a business proposition between her family brewery and Plumtree Brewery. Jarret agrees to present her proposal to his grandmother, but before that can happen, Annabel follows Jarret to a tavern and proposes a wager. If she wins, Jarret accepts her business proposition to help save her family brewery, but if he wins she must spend a night in his bed. The card game sets off a chain events whe... morere secrets are revealed and a second wager. Can our hero and heroine find love and happiness? This is a fun addition to the series, and I am eagerly anticipating the next volume. The Sharpe family is delightful and the story of the Sharpe siblings' parents mysterious death is a dark thread that weaves through the series.
review 2: 4.5 stars. Another winner!!I really enjoy every member of the Sharpe family and I have a feeling I will love this whole series. This book was no exception. I love Jarret! He is such a likeable hero and Annabel was a great heroine too. I especially enjoyed the role Geordie played in this story because seeing a glimpse of Jarret as a father is so freakin’ adorable and it really suits him too!! Sabrina Jeffries also has the talent of capturing the relationship between her H/h with passion, strong attraction, but also with a lot of humor and heart.Even though he was the cause of the problems at Lake Ale, I was relieved to see that Annabel’s older brother wasn’t a true villain since he was the only male role model for Geordie for a long time. I was happy to see that Hugh showed initiative to act as a good head of the family and that he reacted well to the challenge of the partnership with Plumtree Brewery and was rational with his dealings with Jarret in regards to the business instead of letting his pride get the better of him.The only thing that bothered me about the story was that Jarret was lied to many times by Annabel. The deception on her part was a point against her because I felt like Jarret earned her trust during their travel to Burton and she didn’t seem to realize or appreciate that fact until near the end. Even at the end it was him doing the asking when I felt it she should have made herself more vulnerable to Jarret, especially after the initial rejection to his proposal. less
