review 1: The sequel to Gardner's The Red Necklace. Set in the midst of the French Revolution, Yann and his friends continue to help aristocrats escape the terror of the guillotine. In England, Sido's guardians try to discourage her love for Yann because of his gypsy heritage. But when Sido is kidnapped by the evil Count Kalliovski, only Yann can save her and help save all of France. A young adult version of The Scarlet Pimpernel with some supernatural aspects thrown in for good measure.
review 2: This book is set in the period of terror during the French Revolution. That’s about all I can remember. The plot is barely there and the characters are dull and shallow. Half the time I had no idea what was going on as it was so poorly written. No action, no suspense and a la... moreme love story. All in all, I give myself credit for actually continuing to read it on the high hope that it would get better towards the end. It didn’t. less
