Goodreads Synopsis:
Twenty-six-year-old Gaby Barreto might be a lot of things (loyal, sarcastic, one of the guys and a pain in the butt depending on which family member you ask), but dumb isn’t one of them. When her twin brother invites her to go on tour as his band’s merch girl, she isn’t exactly screaming at the top of her lungs with joy.
With no job opportunities pounding on her door, an ex-boyfriend she would still like to castrate, and no end in sight to moving out of her parents’ house in Dallas… it would be dumb to say no to the chance of a lifetime. Two bands, three continents, one tour. Spending the next ninety-plus days with three beloved idiots and eight complete strangers shouldn’t be a big deal, right?
If only the singer of the headlining band didn’t have tattoos… a great personality… a fantastic body… and if he wasn’t so funny….
Let’s be real: Gaby never had a chance against Sacha Malykhin.
After my disappointment of Lingus (rant review can be found here), I wanted to read another Zapata novel because I’ve heard a lot of good things about her novels. So, for the New Adult Bingo Challenge, I picked up Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin to fit one of the prompts. And I liked this novel much more than Lingus!
I definitely noticed similarities between the two novels. The protagonists are kinda similar and both novels have this immature humour in them (which I don’t mind), but this novel’s humour and romance felt much less forced and it made the novel much more enjoyable.
Gaby and Sacha’s romance was a suuuper slow burn. I won’t lie, slow burn romances can make me feel slightly frustrated because there comes a point where I’m like ‘just get together already!!!’ but I didn’t feel that way with this novel. They were such good friends for a large portion of the novel and I thought they were so cute together without the romance. And Sacha was adorable.
I’d say my favourite thing about this novel was the large cast of characters. They are what made the novel fun, and having the majority of them all crammed together on one tour bus was also interesting to see. I especially liked Gaby’s twin brother, who is a total pain in the arse but also had his sweet moments.
I liked this novel much more than the previous Zapata novel I read! It was a really cute slow-burn romance and I look forward to reading more of her novels in the future.
Would you read this novel again? No, but I will continue to read more Zapata novels.
Who would I recommend this novel to? Romance readers wanting a romance involving music and/or a roadtrip.
