review 1: A Walk in London follows a little girl and her Mum on their day out in London. The reader is invited to accompany them on their way and is shown all of the important sights including Buckingham Palace and Covent Garden. As a result, the reader becomes very involved and this creates a feeling of interactivity. The contemporary illustrations accompany the text nicely and the unfolding panorama of the Thames in the centre of the book adds excitement and novelty value. This is essentially a fiction book, yet it contains a lot of factual information so it works well as a learning tool for children and could be referred to in geography lessons. Some children may not have been to London before so this book provides a good overview of what the city is like and also promotes curiosi... morety for them to actually make a visit. In my opinion, I think A Walk in London would be most enjoyed as a shared read so the journey can be experienced with someone else. Some children may prefer an adult to read along with them because of the sheer amount facts and comments dotted across the page, which may become a bit tedious at times. Although, these do not have to be read in one go and makes for a good reason to re-visit the book! A Walk in London would be best suited to ages 4-8 years.
