review 1: Another great book from one of my favorite authors. Sam Kean does not disappoint in this one. Although compared to "The Disappearing Spoon", "The Violinist's Thumb" is a more difficult read. In "The Disappearing Spoon", readers can still understand/ grasp most of the topics even with just a high school background in Chem (or even with just a General Science background). For "The Violinist's Thumb", the reader should at least have taken a college intro course on either biochem/ biology/ molecular biology in order to fully appreciate and understand the book.
review 2: Fascinating stuff....Did you know our genome is 8% viral DNA and only 2% human? Or that house cats can infect you with a TOXO parasite that is believed can alter your genome and make your brain prod
... moreuce more Dopamine (though not 100% scientifically proven) when you smell cat urine thus making people addicted to cats - this may be the cause of cat hoarding! Or that eating the liver of a polar bear will make your skin fall off and could potentially kill you? All this great stuff, I learned from this book! Yet "Violinist's Thumb" is a biologists book and if you didn't like science in school, I would say just read the reviews and cliff notes! I loved biology and it still put me to sleep some nights! less
