review 1: What a mess, where do I start? Should I even bother? What happens in this? Well we follow a nurse around for a 24hr shift that completely violates union agreements and OSHA safety regulations, but hell, its a comic book, so maybe I can pretend that's plausible in Gothem. The rest? Its just a jumbled mess of "can you guess who this villain is after I've done it MY OWN WAY!" which actually makes most of the villains either impossible to identify from a distance or is such eye rolling obvious fan art that I'd really rather go through DeviantArt galleries. The Joker is again driving people crazy because that's pretty much his M.O., no Batman, though you do get a crappy picture of the Man-Bat. I don't want to just rag on and on about the art. I can't believe how crappy the lette... morering was, just subpar levels of production disguised as "gritty," (please note, artists, there is actually a difference between gritty and surreal, blending them is fine, but please try to have a sense of style first). The story is flat, you get to watch guards try to bang nurses, nurses anguished that they have to earn a living away from their children. In fact I was kinda hoping Sabin's kid would die Robin style because I am so utterly sick of people expect my heartstrings to be pulled for "young mothers," (if you didn't have the means, don't have the kid, don't expect pity or sympathy). But sadly the mother and child survive and only a mouse actually bites it in this comic. Skip it.
review 2: Somewhat confusing story without much payoff. It's 24 hours in Arkham Asylum, mostly from the standpoint of the staff, who are trapped there as much as the inmates are. Perhaps they are crazy as the inmates for staying, day in, and night out, in their insane hells. I guess that was the point of the story. The art seems to be mixed media and experimental and at times seems to take precedence over the story. The afterword states this book is dedicated to everyone who hates their job. That's the only sense this story makes. less
