review 1: I was thisclose to putting this book aside towards the middle when I hit the "Christian" part that was a little too pushy. After that bit, it got better and I'm glad I stuck with it. However, I think this book would have been just as good and just as inspirational if the Christianity hadn't been quite so pushy. Emma is a cute character, as are the others. I don't think I will read more of this series.
review 2: Very cute romance. I had rated it a 3 at first, but upon contemplation, I decided that the great theme and fun format pushed it up a notch. We follow the career of a wonderful wedding cake baker and her assistant, both of whom join a new and innovative business that caters to wedding couples. There's some interesting and creative bits about variou
... mores wedding themes as well as some entertaining characters including Jackson Drake, hotel owner, and his very Southern sisters. There's a sideline about Emma's parents who have an on-again-off-again relationship as well as the interesting Miguel who is a minister. There's a bit of Christian romance, but not enough to disturb the non-Christian reader. And I particularly like the format of the book--after each chapter there is a wedding-related fun fact. Sometimes it's a recipe, sometimes it's a to-do list, sometimes it's a procedure or method for cake decorating or creating invitations, or whatever. What I enjoyed is that it's not just recipes, but there's some diversification, just like the concept of the book. Fun. less
