review 1: Sandra Dallas is very diverse in her tales about "real" women. None of her characters are black and white; virtuous or evil. They are rich and developed, and always believable. She has written some historic, non-fiction about the development of Denver in the mid 19th century. This story is about the "working women" of Denver and the many reasons they went to the life. Not many fun and colorful scenarios - a few to be sure, but mostly because of poverty and desperation. This is fiction based on a great deal of research. A good detective story with lots of twists and turns. I listened to this on Audio Book while feeling a little homesick for Colorado. The reader was very good and fit the time period and the characters well.
review 2: I enjoyed it. It was
... morea very easy read, but compelling. I just had to get to the end quickly. I figured out who performed the murders right away, but several times near the end I thought I must be wrong. I learned a lot about Colorado in the "old west" without the book sounding like a textbook. This would be a great beach read. It always helps me want to re-read a book too when I like the ending, and I very much liked this ending. Fun book all-in-all. Also, simple enough that I could read it right before going to bed without making me fall asleep. Can't be said for a lot of books... less

I don't read mysteries very often, but this one was pretty good. Lots of twists.

Predictable. Not one of Sandra Dallas' best.
