review 1: Ho letto tutto d'un fiato questo libro che però non mi ha pienamente soddisfatto. La trama è bellissima e perfetta, l'inizio coinvolgente e memorabili alcune scene (come quella del salvataggio).La lettura scorre veloce come la scrittura ma poi si impiglia in alcune pagine di "flusso del pensiero": parecchie le ho saltate a piè pari perché le ho trovate inutilmente pesanti, come per esempio quelle delle mail stampate al computer.In sostanza lo ho trovato un libro datato: dal 2006 ad oggi pare sia passato un secolo per come è cambiata la società e il pensiero comune che lui racconta, e questo mi ha stupito perché non me lo aspettavo.Ho amato moltissimo le liste fatte dal protagonista, ma ci sono dei buchi che mi hanno lasciato insoddisfatta: non c'è traccia psicologi... moreca della moglie che viene inizialmente delineata e poi trascurata nelle sue vicende (come se l'autore stuzzicasse la curiosità e poi si dimenticasse di completare il personaggio), non mi è chiaro nemmeno il passaggio della rottura sentimentale della donna che ha salvato e, alla fine, ho trovato che il protagonista risolva con troppa facilità le proprie questioni emotive e sociali.Come se l'autore avesse avuto fretta di chiudere il libro e rendere un veloce lieto fine al lettore.
review 2: Brilliant.Luckily I hadn't read the backflap of the book and so I was in awe, right from the start. The strongest first chapter I ever read. I was completely swept off my feet.After that the book takes a whole different tone. Towards the end it becomes almost a farce. Someone here was annoyed because it 'confirmed everything he thought about Italians'. Well, exactly. Hysteric, selfconscious, but always amusing. The writer, storyteller is always concerned about details and that made me laugh at times. But teh observations were always sharp, revealing and recognizable at the same time.Like I said, the finale is turning into one big farce, but just as it is great danger of spoiling most of this wonderful book, the writer finds the right tone again, ending as an at times rather funny drama, instead of melodramatic comedy.
