review 1: The descriptions of the English gardens was lovely. The story itself was an unrealistic love story. I guess I have no feel for them anymore. Jean-Paul was sent to the English countryside by his parents, hoping that would help him grow up so he could then run the family wine estate. He falls in love with the "lady" of the house but, though she loves him also, she stays with her husband and children in England while he goes back to his family estate. He never marries as he can never love again but returns to England and the house only to find she has moved and a new family lives in the house. He stays on to refurbish the gardens for Ava, his true love. The story weaves back and forth between Ava and the new owner, Miranda and her family. There is "magic" in the garden as live... mores and loves are lost and found in for the adults and the children.Everything turns out almost perfect!
review 2: Its a romance novel - nothing wrong in that, I've read a lot. I enjoyed the idea behind it, the intrigue created from the start when the mystery person leaves the book in the cottage. I enjoyed the maner of story telling - the flitting between past and present, drawing parallels and distinctions between situations, attitudes and decisions. But I felt the end was somehow rushed, a conclusion drawn too quickly, abruptly. The style of writing appealed, the concept appealled, I just felt cheated somehow by the neat ending. I will try more by the author however. less
