review 1: This story is also called 'The House by the Sea'(in England). It is the first one I have read by Santa Montefiore and it made me want to read more of her books. The story describes two separate lives, which are eventually linked together. The story is beautifully told with lavish descriptions of the gardens in Italy and England. The author has an artist's eye for detail. The characters are very believable and they made me keen to find out what would happen to them next. A very enjoyable read.
review 2: My first book by this author, and I loved the story. Spanning four decades from the Italian countryside to the English coast. The earlier part which weaves back and forth through out the novel is about a young village girl, Floriana who falls in love with Dant... moree, the son of one of the richest men in Italy. The second story takes place decades later on England's Devon coast where Marina and her husband Grey own a hotel, which has fallen on hard times. Both of these stories have an interesting story line and characters, and at the end of the book we see how they come together. Wonderful writing, I will definitely read more by this author. less
