review 1: Silent is beautifully written and doesn't shy away from the grittier parts of life. As another reviewer stated, it's not all sunshine and roses... it's real! I loved that Alex is a typical teenager full of false bravado, misplaced anger, a little bit of narcissism sprinkled with a heap of insecurity and, above all, hope. Sara Alva's characters are well constructed and her writing rich. I loved Social Skills and was worried I wouldn't enjoy Silent as much, but it was even better. Sara you are truly talented and I can't wait to meet the characters of your next novel.
review 2: This is one of those books that grabs you and doesn't let you go. I loved the writing and the voice of the MC Alex. I had a tough time reading this, first bc the anxiousness of what wa... mores going to happen next, second bc you realize these are KIDS. It was a beautiful story though it broke my heart at the same time. I would emphatically recommend this book! Just make sure you have plenty of tissue. less
