review 1: Here, Sara Zarr tackles the topics of faith, doubt, and Christianity through the eyes of a pastor's daughter who's not sure what to believe. This is a touchy subject and Zarr handles it with impressive elegance. As a Christian myself, I was pleased to find this book neither insulting or demeaning of my beliefs. If anything, it is a respectful, true look at what it's like to be a teenager and make up your own mind, and what can happen to faith through hardship and tragedy (and you'll have to read to find out, of course).
review 2: The book didn't work in the way that there was two different stories, that weren't really connected. Sam's mother in rehab and how Sam copes with that, and also Jodys disappearance. They should have been two separate books because not
... moreenough attention and detail was put into both of them, for example at the end of the book we find out what happens to Jody, it's extremely underwhelming and rushed, so much that I don't really even care what had happened to her. less
