review 1: I found Sarah Crossan's latest novel heartwarming and touching, Apple and Rain is a beautiful coming of age story that left me in a puddle of tears. I was however disappointed at the predictbility of this novel. Every twist and turn was anticipated and was somewhat saddened when I turned the final page without discovering a shock or complete twist in the plot. Despite this I have still given Apple and Rain a 4 out of 5 because of the beautiful way in which this book is written.
review 2: After loving both The Weight of Water and Breathe, I was really keen to read this book too and it didn't disappoint. A really moving coming of age story as Apple tries to find a way to fit with her peers, her Nana who has raised her, her mother who reappears in Apple's life a... morefter years of silence and Rain (who has some odd behaviours). I did find Apple's relationship with Del a bit jarring, but other than that this novel is well written. Recommended, especially for years 9 to 11 girls. less
