review 1: If you like the Mortal Instruments series and other similar stories then you will enjoy this book. Very obviously meant for Youth, the personalities of the characters fit in that role perfectly.(As long as some profanity and immaturity don't bother you then continue on)Well thought out and well executed the story builds slowly but keeps up pace once it gets going. For those that enjoy this read will definitely be investing in the next book because *spoiler* it ends on a cliffhanger. Fun and exciting Dance in Shadow and Whisper is an enjoyable read that both teens and adults will like.
review 2: Going into this book, I honestly couldn’t help but be a bit afraid. Vampires and urban fantasy aren’t quite my cup of tea (but of course, I have one very specific cu
... morep of tea and most things don’t conform to it). But despite my former precautions about the book, I tried to go with an open mind, and I’m glad I did.The characters were all complex and well-developed, diverse, and likeable (or at least the majority were. Yuuhi may or may not have earned my disdain after dissing Guns n Roses). The plot was quick to get rolling, starting on the very first page and kept moving until the very last page. It was impossible not to get caught up in it. But easily my favorite part about the plot was how it didn’t lay all its cards down immediately like many books do. I was guessing throughout the entire book what would happen next, and I don’t think I was able to guess correctly once. In my book, that’s a telltale sign of a great plot. Honestly, I don’t have many issues with this book. My biggest one was one of the characters (I won’t say who to avoid spoilers) seemed very much like a plot device at the beginning of the novel. As the story went on and information was revealed about the character, they did get better, but I always felt like their purpose was more about creating friction for the plot than anything.Dance in Shadow and Whisper was an enjoyable read. I probably would have plowed through it in no time at all if not for life getting in the way and forcing me to put it down for a month when I was literally THREE CHAPTER FROM THE END. And as a final thought before I end off this review, I’d just like to commend the authors. Godfrey and DeRubeis’ styles meshed together perfectly, and I literally could not tell that this was written by two completely different people. There were absolutely no jarring shifts where it was obvious one author was taking over. I read online that both Godfrey and DeRubeis would write for their own characters, but after reading this, I honestly can’t tell which characters belong to who—that’s how clean the writing was. If I hadn’t read two names on the cover, I would never have guessed this book was written by two people. After all of this, I look forward to reading the next book in the series, and can give Dance in Shadow and Whisper a solid B/5 and recommend it to anyone who enjoys urban fantasy and great plots. less
