review 1: This author was new to me, and after reading the many good reviews, I thought I'd give her a try.I enjoyed reading this story, although there were some problems.. I read many high quality authors, and so my standard is quite high. I never thought to stop reading, however, and that is significant. This book has some sticky plot and character things happening, and the author handled it well. The characters were for the most part realistic. This is tough to do with a complex plot. Here are some of the things that detracted from the story a bit for me:I plowed through the Aussie slang (it was a bit confusing and distracting) and some bits of poor editing. Occasionally, sentences were just poorly constructed. I am used to reading authors who have such a skill at the language... more, you dont even notice that your in a book. So, this author needs some polish or to maybe get a better editor. I get it that this is a bad boy meets good girl story. However, in this case, I think the author went a bit overboard. For most of the story, the hero came off as very cold, emotionally. The good stuff he did seemed like he was just going through the motions. You do, however, get the impression that underneath there is a really great guy in there who is capable of bonding with others, so it pulls you along.Still, I think the author worked a bit too hard at letting us know this is a guy who dosent do relationships. I realized that in all of the books Ive read in which the hero is distant, and troubled, etc, most of them are affected by having sex with the heroine. In this story the sex is well described, but seems too clinical. Having intimacy with her didnt seem to affect him much...I realized I enjoy this in a guy, and I missed this in this story. The episodes of sex had the warmth of describing them having pizza and beer together, and moving on without so much as a "wow, that was something". Having sex, with no warmth, or dialog afterwards left me feeling like ice. As a result, I didnt look forward to the sex parts.I was frustrated with the heroine on and off throughout most of the story. It was clear she cared loads for her baby, fathered by a nasty ex-boyfriend who was lifelong friends with the hero.Hense the complex plot...But some of the things she did made me cringe. She is studying to be a teacher, so she has some brains, but some of her thoughts and behavior were really dumb. She left her baby alone in the car at one point...not good. She did make sure the windows were cracked...It made me think of what you do with your dog...I know the author is good at conveying emotions. She brought me to tears at one point, and this is why she gets 3 stars from me. Also, there is a great ending, and authors always get points from me for those. So overall, I would say this is a good one, and worth the read.I will probably read more of hers, as I imagine her writing will get better with time.
review 2: I thank all the agents and editors in Harlequin who found and nurtured Sarah Mayberry. If not, how can I be awed by her talents?Hehehehe. This book is a testament of how talented Sarah Mayberry is as a writer. I know all the reviews here has already said it often, let me write it again: Her characters are so real. There is nothing fancy about the story in this new book. It's just about a bad boy fell in love with a single mother ( A plot that has been rehashed so many times by romance novels out there). The only curve on this particular story is the fact that Pippa was Harry's bestfriend's ex.Harry is a mechanic. Pippa is studying for her diploma in teaching. All of them are normal people which we can relate to.Pippa is an ex-girlfriend of Steve, Harry's bestfriend. He dumped her when she found out she were pregnant. She's struggling because Steve didn't want to pay child support or visited Alice, his baby daughter. Harry is Steve's bestfriend so his loyalty is with Steve when the breakup happened. It's only accidentally that Harry met Pippa when her car broke down. They became friends again and attracted to each other.Harry saw how badly Steve has behaved in reneging from his responsibility so Harry was torn between his loyalty and his moral value. This is why I liked Harry so much. He is the type of best friend that everyone should have. A friend that will tell you when you did something wrong but will not let you go regardless. Steve is really lucky to have Harry as best friend.Sarah Mayberry managed to described the start of the relationship and the development so naturally and intelligently. No big scene. Everything just flow. The characterization was done so in depth. Not only the main characters, but also the secondary characters like Steve, Harry's father, and Pippa's mother(I just realized Pippa's mother actually never come out in the story except through phone). All these secondary characters make the story richer. less

Adorable. Also, hipster glasses in a HQN Super Romance. Heh, I did not expect that.
