review 1: Excellent account of the author's year spent in Iceland as an English Literature lecturer at Reykjavik University in the year when the Icelandic Banks failed and the volcanic explosion took place. Affectionate but honest and critical view of Iceland, its people, it's history and its customs. This is travel writing at its best. Perfect reading to accompany a visit. I should have read it beforehand to prepare me for the climate!
review 2: I just read this book in e-book form. I actually read it while I was in Iceland. It is non-fiction, written by a woman who spent a year in Iceland with her husband and two young sons. She was teaching at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. I really enjoyed the book and absolutely loved Iceland, where I had been wanting t... moreo go for several years. Reading about the experiences of Sarah and her family was very interesting and made me fantasize about living there myself! Even if you have no interest in Iceland you might be surprised by how enjoyable Sarah's story is. less
