review 1: Such a great concept, truly creepy. But then, about halfway through, the haunting stops. Why? I completely get that she wanted to write it using the notebooks of each character, but the best part of the story gets lost along the way. I do like that you have to deduct what the action was from the snippets of each notebook. There's something eerie about that. However, it felt like half of a book and at the end I wanted to shake the author. GAH! Give us more!

The setting of Greenland is portrayed in a really atmospheric way and reminded me of Moss's brilliant non-fiction account of her time in Iceland, 'Names for the Sea.' ... moreCold Earth'(and the one given the biggest part of the story to tell) is, in my opinion, a VERY irritating character! Although I don't always mind this in a novel ('Gatsby' is one of my all-time favourites, for example), with 'Cold Earth' I found the unlikeable narrator a bit of a barrier to my overall enjoyment of the story. less

This author does a good job of slowly building a sense of dread and then completely blows the end.
