review 1: A very quick read but manages to convey a huge variety of emotion and plot, though perhaps that is also a weakness as the sheer number of dramas that are referenced seem to be rather farfetched. The parts that actually focused around the loss of the father to cancer were particularly poignant to me personally. The fantastical elements seemed out of place for the most part, with not nearly enough build up.

... morest aren't. I obviously come from a family like that and this book hit me right in the heart. The yearning for freedom whilst still holding onto the ties that bind resonated with me. Sarah Pinborough was able to succinctly and beautifully render the heartache that grief and bereavement can bring to families that just can't quite get beyond the discord. She knows the faultlines, the trigger points, that loving dysfunctional families have and I am grateful for this little book she wrote. less

Sarah Pinborough has written some great books - The Language of Dying is easily her best so far.
