review 1: Not exactly sure how to rate this book. I like the story, love the premise. I'm interested to know how the whole story turns out in the subsequent books. However, I'm not so excited that I'm rushing to buy them. I bought the prequel and this book & they were good, but I won't be rereading them. And if you're not going to reread a book, why bother. The author is definitely knowledgable about Welsh history and I did like that. However, she seems to gloss over the emotions part of the book. She doesn't know how to convey emotions so you don't feel the romance or the deaths of the characters or the joy they feel. Also, when she writes, she tends to change point of view. Sometimes she writes as a narrator and other times as one of the characters. It was disconcerting at times. ... moreIt's like being the character and then being thrown out and made the narrator.It was such a good story, just wish she knew how to tell it better.
review 2: Almost voted 4 stars for this book, I really did like it. The only complaint is that the author kind makes the details and names difficult to keep straight. That and I wish she'd put a big more of the romantic side into the plot. But even without, the story was pretty good.The story itself is a time travel/medieval/adventure kind of story.Bought the next book in the series and am looking forward to reading on. less
