review 1: I actually REALLY liked this little novel! It's surprising to me because it's one of those books I opened merely to investigate - but the writing drew me in immediately and I ended up not being able to stop. I am a sucker for orphans and poor Harper has been left behind by first her own mother at birth, then again by her adoptive parents at age 8. Now 16, she's been fostered in numerous homes ever since. She's a LOT misunderstood because, you see, she has these witchy powers that she cannot control. They overcome her at times of great fear or anger. Without a plausible excuse, she must accept the blame for being misbehaved and violent. The beginning of the book has her on her way to yet another new home, this time in Peachville, GA. Her social worker warns her - th... moreis is to be her very last chance - if she can't work this out she will next be sent to juvie, a place she would surely never survive. With all final bets on Peachville - it's imperative that Harper find the ability to 'behave' herself. Can she manage? Read it and see...So, maybe the end of Beautiful Demons wasn't perfect for me - but - it did the job well enough to keep my interest level on the up side. I like the basic premise of the story, the people, the mystery surrounding the town...so until I lose interest (IF I do) I'm moving on - just started Book 2 and it seems to be developing nicely. These appear to be pretty short books so I'm pretty certain I'll be back quite soon with my thoughts on Inner Demons!
review 2: This book was interesting enough to hold my attention throughout the whole thing, though I'm not actually sure what I read. I really enjoyed the idea of the book, however I felt like most of it moved way too fast and that none of it was ever actually explained well enough. The ending was strange to me (in its defense I did not see the ending coming) especially since I felt like the person that wound up doing it all only had maybe one reason to actually do it, (granted it was a very stupid reason but still.) less
