review 1: This book is a strange one. I've been steaming through it apace and wanted to get to the end and yet also wasn't a huge fan. I think in essence it was simply too repetitive, although in a way the cyclical nature of Hope and Jack's fights and reconciliations was part and parcel of the dismantling of a couple over many months. I just found that the way Susie and Jack continued to absolve themselves of any guilt or responsibility in the many arguments to be increasingly grating. Maybe they were simply meant to be horribly selfish but I found it hard to believe they couldn't see where Hope was coming from at all. (Although the skill of writing characters that make you want to beat your head against a brick wall is not to be denied.)The uncertainty until the end was satisfyingl... morey well-written, as even I wobbled slightly as to what path Hope should take (although there were two or three times I wanted to shake her by the shoulders).Overall a good book, easy to read in terms of pace (not so much in terms of emotion, as the heartbreak is written vividly), perhaps overly long but still enjoyable.
review 2: SPOILER CONTAINED. Please do not read if you really want to read this book. This book is sending a wrong message. How can a woman keep holding on to such a crappy boyfriend, hopping it will work out in the end? Hope receives lots of verbal abuse from her boyfriend and she always says sorry to him even if it isn't her fault. And in the end, the coward and cheating boyfriend has a happy ending. I really don't understand the logic of this book. I was bored half-way but kept going hoping that I'll see her becoming strong soon, but what? Only about 60 pages toward the end that she realizes it. Even the plot about couple counselling frustrated me so much. The female lead was turned into a doormat. Ugh… less
