review 1: The great thing about this book, aside from excellent content, is that Scot McKnight makes his material accessible to the average reader without lacking in quality material. In regard to the content, McKnight explores the gospel in light of the Old Testament, which allows a larger picture of the gospel, which in turn helps clarify where the epistles are going, which in turn develops the Church's mission and witness for today.
review 2: Loved it. Initially gave it 5 stars, but reconsidered down to 4. McKnight is a good writer who draws you in! He argues for a 'Gospel Culture', not just a 'Salvation Culture', for Disciples rather than Decisions. The Biblical Gospel is more than just the 'Plan of Salvation' applied to an individual, it's the Story of Israel fulfil
... moreled in the Story of Jesus. I loved this biblical theology emphasis -- the gospel concerns the whole story, not just a "minimal" version. McKnight is purposefully provocative, and his "Soterians" vs "Evangelicals" made me examine my own approach to communicating the gospel. I didn't think every accusation was well founded, but he's on target enough to make it a needed book. I appreciate McKnight's pastoral heart. Also loved the threads of church history running throughout. less

One of those really must read books about the gospel. Do not assume you don't need to read this!
