review 1: Another book that I read some time before and re-read recently. I have vague memories of not liking it so much before, perhaps because I had hoped for a speedier resolution of the overarching plot, but I quite liked it this time around. Though, a few small issues: Topper and Fisk prove to be surprisingly loyal to Dessa, since they are willing to accept imprisonment when a book that means something only to her is threatened with destruction. Also, Drake is initially willing to arrest Eudora along with her husband on suspicion of helping fugitives escape, but then only arrests her husband for dealing in contraband wine. It seems like a more just decision in its way, but it is also not really consistent.
review 2: After only two books, I'd say this series has the ... morepotential to have an impact like Amulet or even Bone. Art and layouts are solid, characters varied and interesting, and the dialogue is fantastic. Probably the best part of the series so far. Let's hope Chantler can keep this pace going. The only problem with being invested in a series this early in the game is waiting forever for sequels to come out! less
