review 1: I get concerned if I'll like a book who's main character is a young teenaged girl. This one was really pretty good. A small island community awaits a glimpse if a comet passing by earth but it has terrible effects. The comet drops purple dust that looks everyone who is post-puberty. Yikes. That leaves everyone about 13 and younger to fend for themselves. Except the island community bands together on a farm. They put together a work/chore schedule. They raise animals and plant veggies. They are doing it!! Until the older kids start going through puberty. Ugh!! The CDC has a antidote but will they live long enough to get it?
review 2: I liked the premise of this book - all the adults die, and the kids create their own society - but this is one of those instances
... morewhere the book itself was even better than the premise alone. (The opposite of, say, "The Doomsday Book;" which had a very interesting premise - girl goes back in time to the plague - but ended up being really boring for the first 60% of the novel.) This book fulfilled and then exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it. I look forward to reading the next two in the series. less
