Red Hood and the Outlaws Vol. I
review 1: Art 5 stars. Story 3 stars. This comic books is incredibly drawn. The art is literally breathtaking. But the story... It wasn't bad per se. But all the fights, they felt written for effect rather than with suspense and thrill in mind. And as much as I liked Jason and Roy and their respectful attitude towards Kori as a sexually active woman, Kori was a powerful but not exactly bright bimbo. So, yeah, it was really pretty but there was little substance behind the beautiful pictures.
review 2: After having read some pretty scathing reviews, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book nearly as much as I did. Turns out, Red Hood and the Outlaws is a ton of fun, in the same way that your favorite Summer movie was. The dialogue is snappy, and full of action flick one-liners
... more, while the story itself is a totally serviceable update to Jason's mythology that helps to separate him from the usual bat-fam suspects. Every character is written with care, even the super sexualized Starfire. To be totally fair, the only time I've read her before was in 52, and next to that her characterization is spot on. (Except for the weird amnesia thing.) It's hard to write her off as eye-candy when this volume spends so much time on her and her people, clearly setting us up for a Starfire-centric story arc down the line. She's powerful and in control, slowly becoming the heart of this new, motley team. On top of that, Rocafort's art is just absolutely stunning. Every page is a treat, with smart layouts and hyper-detailed figures. Everything about this book screams fun, and does way more than it should in terms of contributing to the greater DC mythology. less

Three with a ginormous plus or four with a teeny tiny minus, pick your poison.

Red hood and Arsenal are ok as a team, Starfire is just annoying.
