review 1: Good intentions bogged down by a confusing plot. DC is trying to make Static the Spider-Man of their universe. He's got loads of enemies, plenty of friends and sidekicks with secret pasts, and more one-liners than The Big Bang Theory. Too often they all get in the way of each other. It's hard to follow who is who and why they are doing what. Two of the first three cliffhangers are pretty much the same. Static Shock is trying really hard to be something different. It all adds up to a lot of the same old, same old.
review 2: It took me a week to get through this collection. Not a horrible set of stories, but nothing mind blowing. Static is a character that is obviously destined to be placed in the Superman-level super powers of the DC universe, though for now i
... moret is simply confusing as to what exactly the limit of those powers are. He can heal a severed arm, but it's possibly something that only happens in special circumstances? They never fully cover this and finally run off to show even more uses of his powers, sometimes with an a clear explanation of how it works, sometimes not so clear.I will give Scott McDaniel credit for explaining what happened to Static and his family before this 'reboot' occurred, though you need to read every issue in this collection for the full information. It was confusing waiting for the full explanation. I was very happy to see Hardware playing a mentor role, as he was one of my favorite comics from the old 'Milestone Comics' imprint that DC tried in the 90s.Overall, while one of the less interesting of the New 52, it is still at the top of that pile. I did enjoy the stories, though my interest wasn't held enough to read it in one sitting. Very unlikely that I'll pick up any further volumes. less

They tried so hard to rip off Spider-Man... well, even the writer said it turned out like crap.

This was an absolute abomination to everything you ever enjoyed about the character.

Another case of a classic hero's adventures being ruined by a mainstream writer.
