review 1: Read through this one quickly, it held my attention, keeping me reading, sometimes longer than I intended. When Joe Dillard decides to return to work after a year of working on other options, he takes a position with the District Attorney's office. His first case is a huge one, a family of 4 murdered in a roadside park and shortly after, a older couple are killed. Joe's pursuit of justice and efforts to ensure the killer is stopped before more people are murdered, make for an interesting and suspenseful story which is further complicated by Joe's troubled sister being arrested for murder. (unrelated to Joe's case) I may read the next book in the series soon.
review 2: I love legal thrillers and this may be one of my favorites. Scott Pratt weaves so much into
... more this book, subplots, great characters, evil villains that I found myself wondering why he doesn't save some for another book. Some of the subplots would have made a great book by themselves. It is intense, gory and creepy since the story deals with the occult. But none of it is too far fetched. Joe Dillard, the main character who is an attorney is likable but a very real guy with issues and life struggles beyond his work. The book is hard to put down, one of those reads where you want to read on to find out what happens but also want to slow down and savor it. It's the third Pratt book I have read and I enjoyed them all but this was the best yet. less
