review 1: Well, well. After separating at the end of the last book, Tom and Prophet are reunited. Boy, are they ever! They separated before in the misguided belief that being together was dangerous for each other. They both have very dangerous secrets in their pasts, things they want to protect the other from. But Mother Nature intervenes in the form of a hurricane that’s barreling down on New Orleans and Tom’s Aunt Della. Tom’s stuck on assignment, and although they have had no contact for months, Prophet knows that Tom can’t get to his aunt and goes to New Orleans to help her through the storm. I really liked Aunt Della. In spite of her age, she is spunky and refuses to leave her home. She has two renters, Roger and Dave, a gay couple who have lived with her for yea... morers. At the height of the storm, with thunder crashing and lightening flashing, trees falling and power stopping, Prophet hears an intruder at the kitchen door and tackles him in the yard. It’s Tom, who has left his assignment without permission to come to the aid of his elderly aunt, the only person who ever protected him as a boy. The hurricane is minor compared to the storm of passion that crashes down on Tom and Prophet! In the rain and mud, against the kitchen wall, on the floor and in the shower these two incredibly hot men can’t get enough of each other, and still can’t admit their feelings. Prophet is reintroduced to Tom’s incredible piercings (that I almost swooned over in book one, Catch A Ghost) and his beautiful tattoos. While investigating a fire that started during the storm, Tom discovers a body and is immediately found by the local sheriff and accused of murder. Well, it seems that Tom and the sheriff have a past and things get ugly. Fast. At this point, Prophet, while trying to find a way to get Tom out of jail, meets Etienne, Tom’s childhood friend and first lover. And, dear friends, that’s about as much as I’m going to say about the story. I don’t want to get into spoilers. There are some big bright spots in this story. Along with all the other awesomeness that is Tom, we find out that he’s an alligator whisperer! That’s just one more thing that turns Prophet on. The whole cast of characters in this book were fun to read, Etienne’s fifteen year old son, Remy being a highlight. Cillian is still sending messages to Prophet that are always interesting.Following Prophet and Tom as they wrestle with the ghosts of their pasts is engrossing, but there are a few downsides to this book, too. Some of the dialog was a little hard to follow. I had to re-read several times to figure out who said what. It got confusing. This book did not seem quite as cleanly constructed as book one and still managed to keep my attention from the first page to the last. This is a series I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a sexy, action packed read. You can find my review of book one in the series, Catch A Ghost here. And stay tuned! My review of book three, Daylight Again, is coming soon!
review 2: First of all why are people comparing Proph and Tom to Ty and Garret of 'Cut and Run'? The only similarities I see is that both MC's were agents prior to joining EE. The action, the plot, the MO and secondary characters are all different. I love Ty and Garret as a couple in Cut and Run but they don't have the raw chemistry that Tom and Proph have. Man, the scene in the rain was hot, hot, hot!!!! Fast paced, dialogue flows naturally and great writing. I'm hooked on this new series and hoping that we don't have to wait too long for book 3! It kills the momentum if we have to wait too long SE Jakes! Did I already say that I hope we don't have to wait too long, well just saying! less
