review 1: I'm giving this one a 3 because compared to the 1st one, it's a world away.I really actually liked LC in the 1st story, so when I saw there was a menage story with him and the hot cop I liked in the first, I took it. (but again, as soon as I finished the book, I forgot cop's name, and forgot the other main character too, had to just look them up to appease my mind. and if they're that forgettable, that's a bad sign for me, personally)There are problems I have with the story, and things I liked. The relationship between all the 3 characters worked for me, but I'm a big fan of m/m/m and poly relationships, so I'm not convinced that without that natural bias, it would float. They all seemed a little to quick and easy to accept it, although from LC's POV, I definately understa... morend why he was gunning for it. Law, at least, is my spirit animal in this regard and the other guys? They're hot, even if forgettable. The dialogue and "connection" pulled me through, and there is, as in the last book, just enough subspacey bdsm hinting to keep me curious, even if it never delivers properly on that front. The plot is a little unbelievable, but I mean, I suppose it's meant to be. If you can suspend disbelief in the possibility of the 3 way with such 3 perfectly built, beautiful, and tragically fucked up individuals, who all are in fields lke cia, army, police,..then you can do anything. Nobody wants to read a 3way with the manager of a McDonalds, or 3 chubby average looking dudes, I suppose. So if you can accept the unreality of THAT, I suppose you better just suck up and accept the unbelievable plot too hahah. Liked the sub character Tomcat a lot. Even though I don't necessarily "like" this series, I keep buying the next in line. So that says something. What? I'm not sure.If nothing else, my compliment to the author for that.
review 2: Oh, the things I learned from this book -- for instance, protective custody means you will have LOTS of time on your hands. Best take one or two others with to help pass the time in creative ways. Wow, there was a lot of very very very hot sex in this one.Styx and Law fell in love as teenagers, but Styx left and never told Law why. Law never let himself get over Styx. Never really moved on. Paulo manages to break through Law's defenses just in time for Styx to resurface. So, what does that mean for Paulo and Law? Well, if circumstances would have been different, it probably would have meant that Paulo would have left. But, as things happened, that wasn't really an option. So, make the best of a bad situation and maybe you'll find something even better than you thought. This book could have been boring, since most of it took place while the three MC's were hidden away. However, I did not find that to be the case at all. We get to know what goes on in the heads of the MC's and lots of background and I pretty much always enjoy that. There was some action, too, so it wasn't a 'one set' story, by any means. These three MC's really deserve some happiness. They were all dealt awful hands when it came to blood family. Thank goodness Law and Styx found Greg and managed to finish growing up with some stability. And Paulo is a pretty resilient guy. Though his childhood wasn't nearly as bad as the others, he still feels disposable and that is never good for ones mental health.Really enjoying this series! less
