review 1: Genre: PicturebookAge level: Early ChildhoodLexile: N/aSetting: Meeow's housePOV: narratorMain characters: Meeow, Moo, Baa, Quack, WoofMeeow is a precocious young cat who has many cute farm friends: Baa, Moo, Quack, and Woof. The characters in this book are named according to the sound they make, not their animal names. Meeow has his friends over to play and each character brings an item and picks a different color chair. Moo carries a little green flag and a whistle, Meeow has a bell in his yellow backpack, and they all sit on their different color chairs. They try to decide what type of play they can engage in with their different color chairs and items, and Meeow comes up with the idea of putting the chairs to together and using their items to make a train. Main ideas:... more n/aPErsonal reaction/if I would recommend it: The positive aspects of this book are that it employs the names of different colors, uses the sounds of animals, and has cute illustrations. However, it stops short in that the storyline is a little difficult to follow. The way that it switches back and forth between describing the chairs each animal takes and the item each animal has makes it difficult to make predictions about what is going to happen. Satisfying concluding statement: Meeow has cute illustrations but there is something missing.
review 2: Meeow and the Little Chairs is a delightful book for the Toddler and younger Preschool set (1 to 3 years of age). It's all about Meeow, a friendly black cat with a jaunty red scarf. Meeow has friends --Baa, Moo, Quack, and Woof-- and once they are introduced we find them carrying their chairs and putting them in line. The question is 'what are they making'? Moo gets out his yellow whistle. Hmmm? Then Meeow gets out a bell from his yellow bag. They all sit on their chairs and then the mystery is resolved, especially delightfully for fans of trains.Talking PointsThis is a colorful book that small fry should like. There are cheerful animals and a mini-mystery to entertain them. The drawings are simple, and the font is large so that adults can trace their finger over the words to demonstrate for children that these letters tell what is going on.Adults will also find that there is ample opportunity to discuss colors, and the names of animals and what sounds they make.No Reading Level found.**Above Average**Pam T~mom and reviewer at BooksForKids-reviews.com less
