review 1: I loved Ahab's Wife so much, I thought I would love another book by Sena Jeter Naslund. This is one strange story. It takes place in 2020, and has 2 people (one named Adam) ending up in a deserted tropical 'Eden" under very different circumstances. There are about 5 different plots all taking place at once, and I found the book rather confusing to follow at first. While the plot made more sense as the story went on, I didn't find it to be an especially great or interesting plot. The parts of the book that were interesting were the science/religion aspects- one man finding proof of life in other areas of outer space, while the entire story carried a theme of Coptic Christianity and the Nag Hammadi scriptures that were found in Egypt in 1945. Books like this always lea... mored to more research. The story is original, but I didn't love this one.
review 2: I struggled through this book, barely finishing it. It was not a story that really grabbed my attention. Really, it was a bizarre novel. Lucy is widowed at an early age, is commissioned to fly a secret set of books out of the country, crashes and meets Adam, who is presumed to be mentally impaired in some way. They survive in their Eden and then struggle to make it back to those who sought out Lucy to deliver the documents. less

Moments of brilliance. Moments of blundering. She tried to tackle a lot in this one.
