Inspector Singh Investigates
review 1: The first book in the Inspector Singh series adds an intriguing surprise to the world of literary detectives. The portly detective who loves his food is a messy eater although his white sneakers are always spotless. His turban typifies him as a member of the Sikh culture but he is not a follower of that religion. He has the ability to annoy and irritate all around him, from his superiors in Singapore and colleagues in Malaysia to the potential suspects of the crime he is trying to solve, yet underneath the rude behaviour and gruff demeanor there lies a soft heart and a single-minded focus on seeing justice done.
review 2: This came up as a recommendation on GoodReads and also at my public library so I thought I would give it a try. I was surprised to find a my
... morestery that dealt with religious conversion. The plot was good and I didn't realize who the killer was until the very end. However I felt that the author didn't give much attention to the Inspector Singh character. For me at least, the thing that draws me into a mystery series is a likable detective. Perhaps the other books in the series give more attention to the main character. I noticed this with Donna Leon's first few books in the Commissario Brunetti series. So I will consider reading the second book in the Inspector Singh series. less
