review 1: Oh, dear God. I had such high hopes for this book and this series based on the premise and the first page or two, and then everything just started falling to pieces, so slowly it was painful to watch. Characters that at first seemed to have potential for hidden depths ruin themselves by behaving in ways that are utterly unbelievable yet completely predictable. The dialogue is clunky, stilted, and even more implausible. The plot too reverted to genre conventions, with the heroine asking for marriage from the hero, and then fleeing into the proverbial arms of the enemy when he offers to make her a mistress instead. Ugh. Spare me.
review 2: When You Give a Duke a Diamond is the first book in the "Jewels of the Ton" series by Shana Galen. I pick this book up on a
... morewhim, and ultimately I'm glad that I did. It took me a chapter or two to get into the more romantic/less historical mindset for the story, but when I did it was quite enjoyable. I mention this because if you are looking for a historical romance, with the focus being on historical accuracy then I would say to look elsewhere. It's dramatic and fun, but there are liberties taken with societies strict rules that allow the Three Diamonds to be so well received as part of the demimonde, as well as the fast-pased romance between Juliette and Will, the Duke. With that caveat out of the way, I must say that I loved the fact that Will had his faults, and that he wasn't this charming, wonderful, knight-in-shining-armor from the very beginning. I feel he grew the most in the story, where Juliette has less growth. After their rocky beginning, I loved reading their scenes together and the resolution to the story, although a bit cheesy, was awesome. Not all of the mysteries were solved, and there was a bit of a cliff-hanger at the end of the story, so I already know that I'll be reading the other books in the series to find out what happens. less

A good story, but too many factual errors and typos for a 4 or 5.
