review 1: This was my first book by Stacey in a while, and now I remember why I like her! Great couple with some very funny moments. Looking forward to reading the rest of the Kowalski books. I liked this even better than the first trilogy. The only thing I didn't like is pretty typical of contemporary romance. In the final "payoff" scene when they get together, they plan out their whole lives together in about 5 minutes. The language wasn't natural, and it just felt a bit forced. I think an epilogue would work better than this forced conversation.
review 2: This was another installment in the Kowalski Family series. The story revolves around Paige and Mitch. Mitch is a love-em-and-leave-em kind of guy. Upon meeting Paige, the new diner owner, he tries to work his magic
... moreon her. Unfortunately for him, Paige is abstinent. Paige's priority is establishing her life, her own person. As far as she is concerned, men are not a necessity. Therefore, when Mitch hits on her, she knows he is trouble and brushes him off. Much as he would like to brush off the rejection and move on, Mitch is enveloped in Paige's mystery. Nobody knows why Paige hasn't embarked on a romantic relationship since arriving into town. He perseveres in his efforts and eventually succeeds. Paige could no longer resist Mitch and they come to an understanding that their arrangement is strictly temporary. She came into the arrangement with eyes wide open so she did not expect much. However, her blase attitude started rubbing Mitch the wrong way. He didn't want to admit it but he wanted, on some level, a greater affection than their arrangement allowed. This left Mitch torn between being relieved that she is keeping the arrangement and disappointed that she is doing so. Mitch knows he cannot stay because of his business and Paige knows she loves the town to ever leave it for Mitch. They are fundamentally different, which only served to highlight the fact that even if they did give a relationship a try, it was destined to fail. Added to this complication is their friends' divorce. After being married for ten years, the wife confesses that she never wanted kids. Drew, on the other hand did want kids, and is betrayed that she kept the lie for a very long time. Their divorce only served as an example of a doomed relationship. While they loved each other, they held very different views at a fundamental level. However, when it came down to it, Mitch and Paige came to a compromise. Mitch would travel and visit the town sometime. Paige would stay and come along Mitch's travel sometime. If you really wanted it bad enough, you would find a way. This was another solid addition to the Kowalski series. I think its charm is the dialogue between characters. It isn't outrageously whacky funny but it is the kind of banter between real people. It is a good strong contemporary read. less
