review 1: I've read other Sharon Shinn books and they were fantastic. This one was just boring. I started it several times and had to make myself finish it. Most of the story was Maria talking about her undying devotion to Dante, even if he just happened to be killing people while in his animal form. I have to say that I think Ellen's character was much easier to like than Maria and Will seemed more interesting than Dante. Reading more about Will would be the only reason I read the second book in the series. I'll definitely try more of Sharon Shinn's books, however, since one of her other series is a favorite.
review 2: From the cover, this looks like a regular bodice-ripper, not something I usually read. I was pleasantly surprised at the shape-shifter twist, the humanit
... morey of the characters, and the minimized romance aspects. And it's set in east-central Missouri -- I was in Eureka just last summer. The plot was a bit predictable but kept me engaged through to the end and was enjoyable enough for me to look into reading the second in this series. less

Oh, reading to the end made it the best ever. Good relationships, and it felt real.
