review 1: A large extended family runs an Italian restaurant in PA. And then the grandmother's boyfriend is murdered in the kitchen. Eve, the head chef and granddaughter, tries to figure out who did it to free her grandmother from jail. Light fluff and romance. I read this based on promises of good food accounts, which were lacking. Food prep does play a part, but it is mostly names of what is prepared, not luscious sensory mouth-watering descriptions. I like the series by Diane Mott Davidson better, and she includes recipes!
review 2: I really wanted to like this Agatha-nominated book, I really did. One of my friends, whose opinions usually match mine, gave it 4 stars! Unfortunately, after a couple chapters I realized that I simply didn't like the characters. The ... moremain character was totally disrespectful towards the murder. Her grandmother was ridiculous. Her best friend was all-consumed with her make up and how she looked. Yuck. It just didn't hold my interest at all. Maybe one day I'll pick it up again and give it another try, but there are so many other books out there... less
