review 1: It’s not what you think, really it’s not, okay so it is historical but in a new twist that brings you to a magical place where things are not as they seem.Hauk Valbrand did not want a wife at all. Never would be the correct measurement, but with a situation so wrong he blurted out that he chose her. Now his responsibility he has to follow through with this tradition that if he brings her home, he must provide for her, keep her safe, and make her life here on Asgard Island most pleasant, only he doesn’t want her that close to him. He knows how this is going to end.Abducted from a trade fair, Lady Avril de Varennes is catching on very quickly when the woman protest, and the men commit to them she is presented with a ceremony of weddings if the woman agree or not. N... moreo matter what they agree to she is not going to agree to stay her. She has a 3-year-old daughter that needs her very much, and after losing her father 3 years prior this is something that Avril will never relinquish, leaving the island and leaving Hauk.If I give much more than that I am afraid I will ruin the story for you, but this is one that I will read again, and again. Not only that but I cannot wait to read another one. Shelly has taken an old tale and did a spin-off that you would never expect, or predict. Her imagination in combination with her writing style I couldn’t put this book down, in fact I slept very little last night. If left me wanting, pleading, crying, and my heart-felt the pain that the characters felt. The greatest thing… Hauk, what a name for a male lead, because it really does fit his character to a tee.
review 2: I will definitely be picking up more of this series! The writing reminded me of some of Johanna Lindsey's period pieces, and as she is my favorite romance author this is definitely a good thing. The plot was very unique and my interest was piqued from the first page to the last. My only complaint was the ending which rushed and, while it was happy, didn't leave me smiling uncontrollably when the two lovers found a way to be together forever. A very good read, though! less

An interesting spin on the notion of finding the Fountain of Youth and the resultant consequences.
