review 1: Celine Fontaine is in a restored castle glancing out the window during a lunar eclipse. Next thing she knows she is in a stranger's bed and it's 1300 AD. The man is Gaston. It is his home and bed and he is a betrothed knight. He was forcibly betrothed by the king to his enemy's ward Christiane. Gaston's plan is to marry, never consummate the marriage, eventually set her aside and have an annulment of his 1st wedding so he can marry another whose lands are near his and would greatly help him hold his lands. Gaston does not believe that she is from the future. He orders his staff to put her to work and goes out to see to his lands. When he returns late one night she and the kitchen staff are laughing as she has been trying to teach them how to make crepes. The kitch... moreen is a mess, and a crepe falls from the ceiling as he watches them in disbelief. Celine was shot in her time. A bullet fragment is near her spine and an artery. She is scheduled for intricate surgery to remove it and save her life. She must get home to her time. Tourelle, Gaston's enemy and Christiane's guardian, arrives in a state. Christiane disappeared one night as they travelled from the convent where she had been living. The nuns travelling with them are also in a state. All of them question Celine as to how she got there ahead of them. She tries to tell them and they all believe she must have hit her head and is confused. Tourelle wants Gaston's land. His plan is for Christiane and Gaston's marriage to be consummated. Then an accidental death for Gaston. Once Christiane has officially inherited, she too will meet with an accident. During travels, Celine learns to love Gaston and he is wildly attracted to her. At his sister-in-law's he gets roaring drunk and does what he could never do sober - he takes Celine's virginity. Travelling by horseback is jarring her back, causing her pain and she wonders if it is hastening her death. Her time to return to the future and the life saving surgery is running out. Gaston finally believes her story. How could fate be so cruel to finally show him love. Will he lose her to the future? Or will he lose her to death in a few weeks? Can he somehow keep her and save her life?
review 2: Celine goes back in time 700 years, is mistaken for a woman of Gaston's enemy that he is ordered to marry. Celine is trying to go back to her time before she dies. The story was a interesting one. Though Celine was...hmmm..I don't know, too stupid to live moments, that just bugged me. She came across as a spoiled empty headed rich girl at times. Gaston, was a complete bastard the first half of the book. Juliea Motyka did a great job of narrating the audible version of the book, except for Gaston. She almost made him unlikable. But even with all that, I was drawn into the story to the end. I would not hesitate to read any and all of Shelly Thacker's other books. I love her writing. less
