review 1: I gave this book as high a score as I did, because I think it insightfully discusses important topics that we should all consider. That said, it was not a pleasant read. That is partly because of the subject matter, after all, pretty much anyone reading this book is bound to find some unfavorable similarities to their own behaviors, but also because it is frankly not that well written. While I find the author's thesis and arguments compelling, the entire book had the repetitive and arduous feel of something that had been hopelessly padded to bulk it up to the length of a proper book. I can't help but feel like all her points could have been better made, in a shorter format, that did not cover the same ground quite so many times. I found myself constantly peeking ahead, to ... moreget a feel for how much longer it would be until the next chapter, as I rushed through the fourth or fifth story illustrating the same point that had already been amply established.Unfortunately, as really meaningful as some of the ideas in the book were, and as much as it made me consider technology from a different perspective, by the epilogue I found myself thinking "is this ever going to end? We get it, how much more could you possibly have to say?" I would still recommend people read the book, because it brings up questions we should all be asking, but be prepared for a slog to get through it.
review 2: Most amazing read. Very interesting insights into what we need from human interactions and how we are slowly replacing what we need with what we think (and are made to think by the industry) we need. Give an interesting overview of how our interactions with each other are changing under the influence of more and more technology that we surround ourselves with. It appears that we are not using more and more technology but that technology is using us more and more. To keep up with all the necessary inputs, we are more and more becoming the librarians of our life - rather that actually living it... Most highly recommended read!!!! less
