The Sweet Magnolias
review 1: Great contemporary romanceSheryl Woods is one of my favorite authors. I love following her series and The Sweet Magnolias is a good one. This one is about Jeanette and Tom; two people who are not fond with the holiday season. They are put together to help with the holiday festivities¬¬ for the town of Serenity. As the story goes, they go through the many differences between the two of them, Tom’s stuffy rich parents’ dislike of Jeanette, many reasons why Jeanette doesn’t want to get involved with Tom and why Jeanette doesn’t celebrate the Christmas. The author ties the story of these two characters around the town of Serenity and of the many other characters from her other books that we have gotten to know and love.It is an easy read which is quick and enjoyable... more. As others have mentioned, I too thought the ending came up fast. I would have thought there would have been a little more from Tom.
review 2: Here's another one I didn't finish. There must be something wrong with me, but I just don't understand why I'm supposed to find it romantic for a man to aggressively pursue a woman, to the point of physically restraining her, after she's given him several clear and pointed rejections. I also got fed up with her so-called 'friends,' who could find nothing better to do than drive her towards his bed, smugly ignoring her repeated pleas that she wasn't interested, and just doing everything they could to further upset her. I mean, what am I missing? I would find it more romantic if the man just tried to become friends with her first and learn why she's not interested in romance. And as a friend, I would respect her wishes and just invite her to confide in me, rather than just assume I know what she wants better than she does, and that I have a right to force her into a relationship I 'know' she wants. Argh. I had hoped for a nice tale of a small town Christmas with quirky characters, with maybe a little romance. I wish my library had a wider selection of audiobooks... less
