review 1: This books is hard for me to rate because honestly, at the beginning I did a lot of skimming. The author likes history and architecture and I just...don't. Too much description in the beginning, but after half way through the story picks up and I enjoyed the action and conversation. Very witty! There are a ton of references to all kinds of books and music, some I got while some I didn't. And not everything made sense plot-wise. I don't think I'll read the rest of the series.
review 2: I enjoyed this book and have read several other of Sherwood Smith's books, but the writing was a little lengthy at times. The plot was interesting and had many twists. I really enjoyed the European settings and Smith's descriptions were wonderful. I liked the "world-building" of t... morehe hidden kingdom within our normal world. This isn't as fast a read as some of Smith's other books, but I like that it's aimed at an older audience (New Adult instead of Young Adult). I'm looking forward to reading the sequel! less
