review 1: I really liked this book. I was expecting to be slightly disappointed, as the other books in the series were light romances, and it seemed like this one would have no romance at all. However, I loved Kim's perspective, the plot was super fun, and it still managed to keep some storyline with the original characters and well as a romance between the new characters. I was not disappointed at all, I loved it. I only wish there would be more Dobrenican adventures coming up.
review 2: Smith finishes(we assume) her Coronets and Steel series with this enormous and rather leisurely time-travel adventure. Kim is about to marry her beloved Prince Alec, when she is whisked out of her body and into a kind of spirit-bondage by the Dobrenican deity Xanpia. Her help is r... moreequired to save the future of Dobrenica, but to help, she is sent back 200 years to be a kind of ghostly guide to Aurelie de Mascarenhas, an ancestress to the present day Dobrenican nobility. It takes a little while to get into the rhythm of the story and to care about the characters. And the rather rushed ending is confusing and somewhat chaotic, but if you've been a faithful reader of this series you will want to get to the conclusion and see if Kim and Alec finally tie the knot.
