review 1: It's a straight-up narration of Japanese history, told in graphical form. There isn't much else to say, really. The images are a combination of cartoony manga with what looks like woodblock prints of photographs. The art is plain enough to not take away from the focus, which is telling the story of Japan's slow march towards imperial fascism. It's a fast read and worth checking out if you are interested in the history of modern Japan.
