Ninth Doctor: Dalek

Writer: Robert Shearman

Director: Joe Ahearne

Producer: Phil Collinson

Series: 1, episode 6

Summary: The Doctor and Rose travel to Utah in 2012, where they meet Henry Van Statten, who has a collection of alien artifacts. One of them just happens to be a Dalek.

Review: Until this episode, I was just going through the motions as a Whovian. I liked what Russell T. Davies was doing, but it just didn’t feel like Doctor Who.  Then I saw this episode, and my faith was restored. Now, I knew Doctor Who was in the right hands. It’s just not Doctor Who without the Daleks. I liked how the Ninth Doctor now had  a seething hatred of the Daleks that almost makes him as bad as his enemies. Rose is the only person who can snap him out of his hatred before he goes too far. This is the story that finally cemented my faith in the revival of Doctor Who, and I never looked back.

Overall Review: 10/10

Continuity: We hear “Bad Wolf” as the call sign for a helicopter that is touching down. The Dalek tells the Doctor “You would make a good Dalek”, which is also said to the 12th Doctor in “Into the Dalek”. Adam becomes a temporary companion and also appears in the next episode, “The Long Game”.

Trivia: This is inspired by the Big Finish audio drama “Jubilee”.
