review 1: I wanted to read this book about the lives and realities of military families. I did not realize until starting it that it is a series of short stories - some with slight links, but all sharing a company based in Fort Hood as a common denominator. The stories went from poignant to bleak - with only a couple showing glimmer of hope. It was written by a military wife so it resounded with authenticy and I am glad to have read it

... moreore the end, you get to know the characters a bit, but you can’t really understand them and you certainly will never know how everything turns out. If you like your stories tied up in a neat bow, this collection is not for you. But if you wish to glimpse what life can be like for those left behind as well as for those who soldier on, you need to read this book. But be warned, it is not all’s well that ends well, because for some, there is no happy ending. Most stories are sad, while others are quite chilling. less
