review 1: Kab ki patthar ho chuki thi muntazir aankhen magar,Chhoo ke jab dekha to mere haath geele ho gaye.I picked up this book looking for Indian fiction and the plot of a Hindu-Muslim couple's life after marriage. Well, little did i know that it deals with the notions of 'secularism' and falsification of history. The author minces no words in describing the intolerance, cruelty (and rank stupidity) of fanatic Aurangzeb or the hypocrisy of 'left-liberals'. It almost felt like Arun Shourie was the author. Hard-hitting and brutal have been aptly used to describe this book. Also, like Rahul Pandita's Our moon has blood clots, this book reminds that eternal harmony cannot be built on a foundation of falsehoods.
review 2: This review is for the English version translated re
... moreally well by Sandeep Balakrishna. This books questions the way we are taught history and rebels against sugar-coating history to make it politically correct. Many of the narrations in the book makes much more sense than the history we all read in School and as such the book is an eye opener. However, the author's tone is very provocative and the book would have been so much better without it but then it wouldn't be controversial I guess. Where the traditional text books try to mellow down the atrocities of the past, this book exaggerates it in many places! Overall, a very well researched novel touching on the Mughal history if you excuse the harsh tone and arrogant certainty in which the author narrates it. less
