review 1: A master story teller like S L Bhyrappa only can capture the mind & soul of a reader with his vivid narration. This story is so intensely narrated that it crossed the realm of my imagination and touched my soul. Not in a good way though! While the beginninng part of the novel induced a feeling of disgust, the latter part disturbed me to my core. The fearsome battle with life that Nanjamma had to endure throughout the course of her existence was all for nothing, a lost cause? I know life is not beautiful always. But the fate of the lead character creates a sense of dispassion and repulsiveness towards life. There might be a lot of positive things to take and appreciate from the characters in the novel esp from that of a fighter like Nanjamma. However at the end of such an i... morentense read, I'm far from appreciating the brighter side of good and positive aspects in life forget the bad ones! To sum up, a disturbing read!
review 2: One of the finest books of S.L.Bhyrappa. I have Heard so many people saying that his novels Are good. Its not only good its the best. As i started reading this book i was Shocked to find so many bad words. Thanks to him i now know A lot of words. But as i progressed,the way nanjamma deals and fights her Life with the help of Her children ,i was amazed. the strength,the smartness,the intelligence of hers is the one which made Me awed. The part where two of her children die is where i Felt as if i lost my own kin. That is the way he has Written the book. One of the best books i have ever read and one of the books which made me Cry for nanjamma. I have learnt many things from nanjamma which i Will use it in my life. Thank you sir for writing such An amazing book. less
