review 1: I have read reviewers who disliked the book for its detailed descriptions. I disagree with this critique; however, I do agree that this book did not need to be written. Basically, Lord of the Mountains, are the concluding chapters to Tears of the Sun. The publisher probably believed that Tears was too long and suggested that Stirling split the book in two. The action was good and the conclusion well done, but I agree with those who added earlier comments, there was almost no character development.
review 2: I really enjoy this series. One interesting thing is that for the first five books, other than the cataclysm itself, there is no real magical overtones. For the second part of the series, Stirling has really amped up the magical/mythological/spiritual elem
... moreent. However, the battle scenes and the characters are still as believable and enjoyable as ever. This book is a fascinating read if for no other reason that the entire book is all about one massive battle (or series of battles making up a whole). Think a magical version of Gettysburg or Kursk. Final review, I read it in two days. less

This was just a 3* this time. Perhaps just me and my lessened attention.
