review 1: I was really close to giving this book 2 stars because in all honesty, I found it dull and thought the plot was extremely weak. It never seemed to be going anywhere and I understand that it was supposed to be making a point about bullying and so on but I generally thought it was too generic and cliché. But then I took into account that I would never pick this book up myself and was only reading it as part of my book club, therefore I tried to look at it from a more objective view. Aside from the fact that this 'real life drama' just doesn't really appeal to me, it was in some areas slightly touching and even amusing. However I still think that it was just too predictable. I liked the focus on social media and the pressures put on youth in society today, however I found it... more dramatised and possibly the message not put across in the best way. One aspect I loved was that it was British and written from the point of view of a Year 11 girl (like myself) and she lived in a similar kind of place to myself. But that's nothing to do with the plot or how well it was written, it just was lucky that appealed to me. Overall I wouldn't recommend this book if you're like me and enjoy more fantasy/dystopian/futuristic novels. In fairness I have read teen girl 'realistic' stories before, like he Georgia Nicholson books and enjoyed them thoroughly, so it's not just the genre thy put me off. I just didn't find this book had enough to offer in terms of the story and humour.
review 2: I received this book about four or five days ago,I won it in a GoodReads competition. I was asked to read it and give the author my feedback, and what i felt the book was like. I have one word to describe this. Amazing. When i heard that Bennett was a first time author, my expectations weren't very high. But then i read the book and was blown away. This book is tremendous, this is one of the few books that i have read that aren't mostly predictable, but Bennett also gave you time to figure what was happening out, before she truly revealed, and it was outstanding. I am supposed to give this author what I believe she could do to progress in writing and become a better and stronger author. But to be completely honest, there is nothing I can say that could help this author, she is already top-notch, and i can't really see any faults. Sophia Bennett, if you ever get the chance to read this, you are outstanding and inspiring, and you need no one's help to write breathtaking stories, you took Sasha's life and made it worth reading about. She was just an ordinary girl, until you started writing about her. Please never stop writing, this book was one of the best books I've ever read and let me tell you I've read quite a few books in my time. News to everyone, Sophia Bennett is one to look out for in the future, she is going to be big! less
